• Rougher Yet - Tim Wells

Tim Wells' Boys' Night Out in the Afternoon introduced one of the most idiosyncratic and distinctive London poets of recent years and was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best First Collection. Rougher Yet finds him again deeply immersed in his native urban milieu, while musing - in a series of comic self-portraits - on what it is to be a notorious, lowbrow poet. The fug of the cafe and dive bar can be found here, together with the grind of the office, pounded out on the dance floor to the sounds of Wells' beloved reggae and northern soul. His idiom plays on the vernacular and his tone is often upbeat, yet these poems brilliantly capture the tougher aspects of the many faceted, multi-cultural city.

'This paragon of man shows no clemency in verse that excites, entertains, delights and jump-starts your cerebral cortex like an Iggy Pop feeding you a semtex aspirin.' Phill Jupitus
